Great race at VIR Runoffs

At the Runoffs the anouncer mentioned that this was Kevins 6th Runoffs podium finish. I got to thinking, that is pretty good! So I looked up the rest of the facts. Kevin raced the 1990 Acura integra at the Runoffs thirteen times, podiumed six times (two wins, two 2nds, two 3rds). He was called to impound (top six) ten times (podium + two 4ths and two 5ths). And the three times he did not make it to impound was when the car did not finish (a blown engine while in the lead, a blown engine in qual, then a flat tire while in 3rd, and a shorted injector). Wow, even I didnt think it was that good.

For the championship race of 2023 we went to Virginia International Raceway. We had a few issues with a halfshaft popping out during qualifying but we worked through them and qualifyed 4th. Kevin jumped to 2nd on the first lap of the race, and 1st on the second lap. He lead the race with a nearly constant 3 second lead through lap nine when a full course yellow came out. That allowed the other bigger motor cars to get up behind and into Kevins draft on the long straights. In the curves where our car is better they held him up but there was no room to pass. First place was Ken Kannard in our old Integra, finally winning on his 28th Runoffs start. Second was Ira in his Honda Del Sol, and we finished in 3rd. The car ran great and Kevin drove an awesome race.

For our final event of 2023 we went to Grattan Michigan for an SCCA Majors race. We had re-installed the dog box transmission after reconditioning and the car ran well with only a few shift issues. On both days Kevin was on overall pole and led the race from start to finish. He finished well ahead of the second place EP car. It had been 11 years since we had raced at Grattan and it has not changed at all - still very fun to drive and great food for the Saturday night dinner. The two wins gave Kevin the SCCA Northern Division FP championship with only four of the six allowed races - all wins.

For our second event of 2023 we went to Mid Ohio for an SCCA Majors race. The RV was repaired and running well once again. The Integra ran well also, but we did have one issue. In our first qualifying session the right half shaft popped out of the transmission and Kevin coasted through the last 3 turns to get a qualifying time in 11th place. After finding and repairing the shaft issue, Kevin started 11th and had to work his way up through the field, which made for a very exciting race. On the last lap he passed an EP car for the overall win. On Sunday he started 1st and never looked back to take the overall win. THE BEST PART OF THE WEEKEND WAS HAVING TWELVE FAMILY SPECTATORS IN ATTENDANCE AS SHOWN ABOVE.

For our first event of the year we went to an SCCA Majors race Pittrace to test out all the modifications to the car over Winter. It was a successful trip in that we made it there and back, and finished both races, but it was not without issues. The RV, we found out later, had a bad number 2 injector which made it vibrate under heavy load and had a loss of power. The race car ran well initially, but overheated after we created a missmatch of fuel octane and engine tune. After putting in 100 octane fuel to match the tune it ran fine. It rained pretty hard all weekend and although the car and Kevin do well in the rain, the visability to safely pass cars was horrible. Due to that we finished 3rd on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday, but we brought home and undamaged race car.

We have decided to sell the 1954 Rolls-Royce Bentley R-Type. It is nearly perfect and deserves to be used more than we use it. To see all the details about this beautiful classic, go to www.RuckRacing.com/54Bentley.asp.

We are very happy to thank our sponsors for their support. Although we have been approached by numerous companies we only accepted these products because we use and believe in them. Raxles half shafts, Ishihara-Johnson crank scrapers, Jeff at Special Projects Motorsports, and Hasport motor mounts have great products and have been great sponsors. We especially want to thank Cory at SloMotion for dyno ECU tuning, AEM Electronics, and Hoosier Race tires for their support without which we could be so successful.
